
RICHLAND TOWNSHIP – A Blair County man is accused of using a fraudulent check to purchase cellphones and service plans in excess of $2,000 at The Johnstown Galleria.
Bobby Joe Zink, 29, of 23rd Street, in Altoona, was charged with multiple offense, including dealing proceeds unlawfully, forgery, theft by deception, receiving stolen property and issuing bad checks.
Richland Township police said they responded to the Verizon outlet in the mall on Jan. 23 for a report of a man attempting to purchase cellphones and service plans with worthless checks.
Police said an alert was sent from the Altoona Verizon store regarding Zink being involved in fraud.
Police also were called to the AT&T store in The Johnstown Galleria on a report of Zink attempting to purchase additional cellphones, plans and accessories for $2,062.
Police took Zink into custody and they said he had two additional fraudulent checks in his possession.
Police also learned that Zink had tried to purchase seven other cellphones under fraudulent circumstances at the Verizon store in Ebensburg.
