NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — One Middle Tennessee couple received incredible news that they were expecting a child after years of infertility issues, and the mother gave birth just hours after finding out.
Tennille McVetty of Nashville and Walter McVetty of Murfreesboro have been married 21 years and always dreamed of having a family of their own. After trying to conceive naturally with obstacles in their way, they decided to become foster care parents.
The two then became parents to six beautiful girls.
This past fall, Tennille was admitted to the hospital with abdominal pain. She then ended up giving birth to a baby boy at only 25 weeks, the same day she found out she had been pregnant.
Tennille had no idea she was pregnant because she had lost a lot of weight after her mother's passing, and a doctor told her months before the pregnancy she most likely shocked her body into early menopause.
"There was really not much questioning from my point of view because again, here I am at 43 years old having never been able to have kids from age 28 or 30," Tennille said. "It just seemed like a logical explanation to me."Come November, Tennille had symptoms of concern, so she went to the hospital and found out she was pregnant.
"We were shocked," Tennille said. The couple drove home from the hospital and as they were trying to figure out how to tell their kids and family the news, Tennille said she went into labor 30 minutes later. They had known they were expecting for only hours at this point.
The baby, named Daniel, was born on Nov. 20, 2023 at Tristar Centennial Hospital at Midtown. Due to the early pregnancy complications, Tennille was rushed to the Midtown hospital in Nashville to have her first-ever natural pregnancy.
Baby Daniel weighed 2 and a half pounds at birth and spent more than 90 days in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) before heading home.
Tennille and Walter can now say they are parents of seven and Daniel is doing great. Some nurses at TriStar Centennial still keep in touch with the McVetty family and check up on how Daniel is doing.
Daniel, whose name they say came to them from God, overcame many obstacles to get to where he is today, weighing about 10 pounds.
"From where we were, he did astoundingly well from start to finish," Tennille said. "It was just miraculous. It is an absolute miracle that he is doing so well."Now, the McVetty family has a full household. Their seven children range from a newborn to age 16.
Editor's Note: Daniel was in NICU more than 90 days, not 30 days which aired incorrectly.
