CURWENSVILLE - A Clearfield County winery that's teamed up with a retail giant will soon be making its way to Cambria County.
Starr Hill Vineyard & Winery will be opening a store inside Wal-Mart in Johnstown, Richland Township.
Owner Kenn Starr said he learned the art of making wine by his father's side in 1952.
Over the past three years, his small winery nestled in the town of Curwensville on Bailey Road has been expanding into the large retailer.
"Our first location was inside the DuBois Wal-Mart and at that time, we were the first winery in the nation located inside Wal-Mart stores," Starr said.
But he didn't stop there.
Pennsylvania's liquor law allows wineries and distilleries up to five satellite sales locations. Starr Hill Winery will soon have its fifth in Johnstown.
"We have a great following of our wine lovers down in Johnstown," Starr said. "We've been doing a lot of events down there and we've had a lot of people ask us when we're going to open up a store there."
The Wal-Mart locations mean huge traffic flow for the business.
Starr said once the Johnstown store opens, approximately 175,000 people will go past Starr Hill Winery per month.
With four to five employees at each satellite location in Altoona, Butler, Clearfield and DuBois, Starr said his staff has grown to nearly 30.
Starr expects the Johnstown store to open within two weeks.
He said he's looking to hire four to five employees who are at least 21-years-old.
