Johnstown Generals Hockey Team plans "Heroes Cup" tournament and basket party

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. (WJAC) — The Johnstown Generals Hockey Team is preparing for their "Heroes Cup" tournament. It will be held May 21st, 22nd, and 23rd at the War Memorial in Johnstown. At least six teams will be travelling to Johnstown for the event, which is held in conjunction with the Richland American Legion. Local salon reopens, explains new guidelines as county moves into Green Phase

JOHNSTOWN, Pa (WJAC) — As more counties moved into the Green Phase on Friday, more salons reopened across the state. After 14 long weeks, Salvatore Hairstyling in Westmont finally reopened. The family business returned at 50% occupancy, with each stylist only working with one client at a time. Some of the new guidelines for the salon include now having to display hand sanitizer, cleaning off each station after every client, wearing a mask and sanitizing frequently. [Read More]

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) — Punxsutawney Phil's offspring now have names that just might help the famed weather-forecasting groundhog to predict when spring will begin. Phil's human handlers chose Mother's Day to announce that the two kits born this spring to Phil and his partner, Phyllis, are named Sunny and Shadow. Sunny is a female, Shadow a male. Blair County animal shelter closed due to yellow jacket infestation

Blair Co., PA (WJAC) — The Central PA Humane Society in Blair County announced Thursday that the shelter will be closed until further notice due to a large insect infestation. According to a Facebook post from the shelter, a large swarm of yellow jackets has created a hive above the cat kennel area. Officials say the hive has damaged the ceiling area, allowing the wasps to freely enter the shelter. [Read More]

SPCA seeks help after rescuing farm animals in Clearfield Co.

The Clearfield County SPCA is asking for help on Facebook after rescuing some farm animals. The post said state police helped in the removal of the animals Wednesday. Details are limited, according to the post, because it is a humane case, but the animals are being fostered. The SPCA is asking for donations to help with the sheltering of the animals. 2021 Virtual THON raises over $10M

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa (WJAC) — The 2021 THON dance marathon has raised a total of $10,638,078.62 for the fight against Pediatric Cancer. Penn State's annual 46-hour dance marathon looked different this year, as it was held virtually, but the community still came together to raise millions of dollars for the Four Diamonds fund.
