CCAAA to create dementia-friendly living community
LECONTES MILLS, Pa — The Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging is creating a community for people with dementia to live together.
The Village of Hope will be located at the Former Girard Goshen Elementary School and 23 acres of woodland around it in Lecontes Mills.
The Agency is partnering with Dr. Bill Thomas's New York-based advanced home-manufacturing company Minka.
Executive Director of the Clearfield County Area Agency on Aging Kathy Gillespie said the community will consist of 60 minkas, small, independent cottages featuring smart home technology.

Dozens lived in Econo Lodge on monthly basis before flames destroyed the building
BREEZEWOOD, Pa. (WJAC) — Saturday, multiple fire crews battled a massive hotel fire in Breezewood until early morning.
Almost all of theEcono Lodge on Lincoln Highway was destroyed by the flames. It wasn't clear at first if the hotel was operational, but according to officials, it was.
Hotel manager Jeff Wracher said more than a dozen people were currently living there on a monthly basis. But on Jan. 3, he says people were given notice to vacate because the water had to be shut off in order to repair the sewage system.

Man fired four shots at juvenile during 'emergency situation' in Portage, PSP says
2nd UPDATE:CAMBRIA COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — State police in Cambria County are providing new details about what led to Sunday's "emergency situation" at a residence in Portage.
Investigators say troopers were called to the home, located along Dulancey Drive, around 11 a.m. for a report of a shooting.
Police say the suspect, identified as 19-year-old Cody Anderson, had reportedly barricaded himself inside the home following an altercation with the juvenile victim.

Okaloosa County Sheriff's Office fires deputy involved in fatal Air Force Airman shooting
OKALOOSA COUNTY, Fla. (WEAR) — The Okaloosa County Sheriff's deputy involved inthe fatal shooting of Air Force Senior Airman Roger Fortson has been terminated following the completion of an administrative internal affairs investigation.
The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Friday afternoon, saying the investigation determined Deputy Eddie Duran's use of deadly force "was not objectively reasonable and therefore violated agency policy."
The fatal shooting of the 23-year-old Fortson took place on May 3 at an apartment complex on Racetrack Road in Fort Walton Beach.

Bloomsburg University eliminates fraternities, sororities
BLOOMSBURG, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's Bloomsburg University is doing away with Greek life, effective immediately. The state-owned university says it has severed ties with all 16 of its fraternities and sororities, both local and national. Bloomsburg announced the decision on Thursday in a two-sentence email to the university community.
Bloomsburg officials aren't saying why they're disbanding the Greek life system, but the move comes after years of problems at the school's fraternities and sororities, including allegations of hazing, alcohol abuse and sexual assault.
