PA Supreme Court hears case between PennDOT, State College contractor

Centre Co., PA (WJAC) — The ongoing dispute between a Centre County based construction company and PennDOT was the subject of a Pennsylvania Supreme Court hearing this week. In August of 2021, Glenn O. Hawbaker Inc., of State College, pleaded no contest to four wage theft related charges filed by the state’s attorney general’s office. Hawbaker, while denying guilt, agreed to pay more than $20 million dollars in restitution. PennDOT sought to ban Hawbaker from bidding on state road contracts for three years. [Read More]

Somerset County Diner stays open for indoor dining, despite state's COVID-19 restrictions

Somerset, Pa. (WJAC) — Despite the state's restrictions on indoor dining until January 4th, one diner in Somerset County has been letting customers dine-in anyway. Cars filled the parking lot of the Summit Diner in Somerset Saturday morning as customers flowed in and out of the dining room. BEDFORD COUNTY, Pa. (WJAC) — "The Cow" -- which has sat off Route 56 in Pleasantville for over 60 years -- just began their very busy 2021 season. "When we opened this year, it's been unreal," said Co-Owner Linda Claycomb. "At times, there's an hour wait for food. Unless they have something going on, they will wait." Two men sought in connection with burglary, vandalism at Penn Towers

STATE COLLEGE -- State College police are looking for two men who are accused of a burglary at Penn Towers on Feb. 4. Police released surveillance footage of the two men who they believe are involved. Police said the two broke into an apartment and broke several items before vandalizing a mural in the lobby. Johnstown man accused of stealing over $30K worth of narcotics from local pharmacy enters plea

Johnstown, PA (WJAC) — Authorities in Cambria County say a Johnstown area man accused of stealing thousands of dollars worth of drugs from a local pharmacy has entered a guilty plea in the case. Officials say Matthew Miller appeared in court last week where he reportedly pleaded guilty to one felony count of obtaining possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation. Police charged Miller in 2022 after he reportedly admitted to stealing over $30,000 worth of narcotics from the Martella's Pharmacy location, where he was previously employed. [Read More]

Officer shot dead near Cleveland, authorities searching for suspect

EUCLID, Ohio (WSYX) — Authorities in Cuyahoga County say a man accused of shooting and killing a police officer in Euclid on Saturday night is dead. Police responded to a call about a disturbance in the Cleveland suburb just after 9 p.m. on Saturday. An officer who was later identified as Jacob Derbin was shot in the incident and later died. Authorities began searching for the suspect in the case; 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn. [Read More]
